Both Kofi Ameyaw from (The Bernard Woma Trio & Biakuye) and Gina Ferrera are two modern gyil lovers, working towards promoting and expanding the future of gyil music. Anywhere the group performs, they stir up a buzz. SUNKWA has recently performed at the Detroit Concert of Colors, East Lansing Jazz Festival and African World Festival, while unleashing their new sound at universities, schools, festivals, clubs and cities in New Jersey, New York City and Michigan.

With this CD, as gyil players, (Kofi Ameyaw & Gina Ferrera) wanted to show respect and appreciation for the culture and history of the traditional gyil music. We also wanted to credit all the people who have inspired us. Although we have taken creative liberty with our arrangements of the traditional songs, this tribute album is a “toast” to the gyil music, its ancestry and traditions, from a modern generation of gyil players.
